Lap the Miles

The poem " I like to see it lap the Miles” by Emily Dickenson may seem like a relatively uncomplicated poem of a horse, yet , it basically has a more hidden meaning. When checked out closer, you may determine that what is basically being discussed is a teach, or a large steam engine. This poem has an overriding metaphor that seems to evaluate the train to the concepts of a horse.

At first the poem seemed to be talking about a creature because of the period it says " and stop to supply itself by Tanks-” (line 3). But also in actuality, this is referring to the train needing to be refueled. The " Tanks” is definitely indicating a gas tank, or maybe a fueling place; not an actual food supply. When looking more toward the beginning, one can at this point understand the collection 1 phrase " I love to see it lap the Miles-” isn't really discussing a horse traveling, nevertheless is a metaphor. The saying applied " lap the miles” (1) is definitely referential to the horse over a track just because a racing horses travels on a track and goes kilometers, but a train likewise travels on a track and goes for even more miles than a horse.
